"The best negotiations happen when you negotiate based on yourself and as you are. Not by using a template. This leads to successful negotiations and better relationships in the long run."

Meet Olof Sjöberg, founder of Ponto Group

I am very happy that you have found your way here and that you are interested in what Ponto Group has to offer. Here we are very committed to building bridges - they just aren't physical.

Before starting Ponto Group, I worked for almost 20 years in various procurement and project management positions in the Norwegian energy sector. These jobs have involved delivering projects in all possible - and impossible - locations around the world.

This has given me a unique opportunity to negotiate and resolve conflicts with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

You are involved in several negotiations a day. We help you with the most important ones.

Have you thought about how many times you negotiate in a day? With your partner, your children, your co-workers, your dog - even with yourself. Some negotiations are less important and a little easier - others are bigger and more difficult.

We are here for you if you need help with work-related national or international negotiations, agreements and purchases or if you want to inspire and develop your employees.

All about negotiation techniques
1

Learn to negotiate based on who you are

We sometimes think we need to become someone else in order to succeed in a negotiation. We want to scrap that image - when you learn to negotiate from who you are, you get genuine conversations and successful negotiations. And feel more confident in yourself as a person.

2

Understanding your counterpart

There are as many ways to negotiate as there are people. If you understand the individual in front of you and find what you have in common, you will find it easier to reach a solution. You will get a toolbox of techniques to use, depending on who you face in your next negotiation.

3

Managing and preventing conflict

It is best to negotiate in time, before conflicts arise. But we are only human, and sooner or later we end up in a situation where the opposing parties do not agree at all. We see conflict as the start of something good - and give you the tools to manage it so that it becomes just that.

Business negotiations and conflict management are our expertise, but once you learn our techniques, you'll find that the other negotiations in your life go a little better too.

Frequently asked questions

Ponto Group offers training and consulting services in the areas of negotiation skills and conflict management. Below you will find answers to some of the most common questions we receive.

What are negotiation techniques?

Negotiation skills are basically how to prepare, conduct and close negotiations in the best possible way to maximize your chances of getting what you want out of the negotiation itself.

What is the best way to conduct a negotiation?

Negotiations can be conducted in many different ways, for example, a negotiation with a partner about potential holiday destinations is likely to be very different from a negotiation between two companies wishing to exchange services. Add to this the options provided by different means of communication and the possibilities are almost endless. Our courses cover the pros and cons of the different methods and what to consider when using them.

What is a successful negotiation?

You decide what constitutes a successful negotiation based on the goals you set yourself for each negotiation. Here at Ponto Group we believe that one of those goals should always, as far as possible, be a satisfied counterpart.

Is it really good if my counterpart is also trained in negotiation techniques?

The answer is undoubtedly yes! Negotiating with someone who is not used to negotiating and who also lacks knowledge in the field can be extremely energy consuming. A good negotiator, on the other hand, knows the importance of handling the negotiation in the right way, allowing for synergies and reducing the risk of conflict.

How many people can attend a course?

There is really no lower or upper limit to the number of participants in a course. Generally speaking, somewhere between 10-20 people is the right number to be able to absorb the course content in an optimal way.

Is it possible to adapt the course content?

Yes, of course! The most important thing is that course participants feel that what is discussed can be applied in their everyday life. So if there is a desire to focus on certain specific areas, we will of course arrange this.

What is conflict management?

Conflict management is simply how you choose to deal with a conflict that has arisen. For example, it could be with a family member, colleague, customer or supplier. We all face a conflict situation sooner or later. Handled correctly, this is not a problem in itself, on the contrary, a conflict can generate new, better ideas and strengthen the relationship between the parties. In our courses we go through how to handle these situations in a constructive way instead of escalating them into something that eventually becomes destructive.

What is the most important thing to consider in a negotiation?

As a general rule, negotiations are far too complex to point out just one thing to keep in mind. The important thing is to feel confident in your role as a negotiator, and that usually comes with knowledge and experience. Then it is easier to see what is key in the upcoming negotiation. In Ponto Group's courses, we teach a basic methodology for how to conduct a negotiation and also expand the toolbox with various tips on how to deal with different situations, all so that course participants can increase their knowledge bank and thus feel more confident in their role as negotiators.
