Ponto Group offers training and consulting services in the areas of negotiation skills and conflict management. Below you will find answers to some of the most common questions we receive.
Negotiation skills are basically how to prepare, conduct and close negotiations in the best possible way to maximize your chances of getting what you want out of the negotiation itself.
Negotiations can be conducted in many different ways, for example, a negotiation with a partner about potential holiday destinations is likely to be very different from a negotiation between two companies wishing to exchange services. Add to this the options provided by different means of communication and the possibilities are almost endless. Our courses cover the pros and cons of the different methods and what to consider when using them.
You decide what constitutes a successful negotiation based on the goals you set yourself for each negotiation. Here at Ponto Group we believe that one of those goals should always, as far as possible, be a satisfied counterpart.
The answer is undoubtedly yes! Negotiating with someone who is not used to negotiating and who also lacks knowledge in the field can be extremely energy consuming. A good negotiator, on the other hand, knows the importance of handling the negotiation in the right way, allowing for synergies and reducing the risk of conflict.
There is really no lower or upper limit to the number of participants in a course. Generally speaking, somewhere between 10-20 people is the right number to be able to absorb the course content in an optimal way.
Yes, of course! The most important thing is that course participants feel that what is discussed can be applied in their everyday life, so if there is a desire to focus on certain specific areas, we will of course arrange this.
Conflict management is simply how you choose to deal with a conflict that has arisen. For example, it could be with a family member, colleague, customer or supplier. We all face a conflict situation sooner or later. Handled correctly, this is not a problem in itself, on the contrary, a conflict can generate new, better ideas and strengthen the relationship between the parties. In our courses we go through how to handle these situations in a constructive way instead of escalating them into something that eventually becomes destructive.
As a general rule, negotiations are far too complex to point out just one thing to keep in mind. The important thing is to feel confident in your role as a negotiator, and that usually comes with knowledge and experience. Then it is easier to see what is key in the upcoming negotiation. In Ponto Group's courses, we teach a basic methodology for how to conduct a negotiation and also expand the toolbox with various tips on how to deal with different situations, all so that course participants can increase their knowledge bank and thus feel more confident in their role as negotiators.
