Preparing for negotiations

These 3 quick steps take 5 minutes - but significantly increase your chances of reaching your goal.

We all know that thorough preparation is the key to successful negotiations. But when your calendar is packed with meetings and deadlines are approaching - what do you do?

Here are the three most important steps that take less than 5 minutes but have a real impact:

1️⃣ Set clear goals No professional athlete goes into a competition without knowing what they want to achieve. The same principle applies to negotiation. If you don't know where you want to go - how can you steer the process there? Define your desired outcome before you enter the room.

2️⃣ Write down your goals It sounds simple, but it reinforces the message to your brain and helps you remember what you actually want to achieve. A written goal becomes an active goal.

3️⃣ List your 5 strongest arguments In the heat of the discussion, it is easy to forget the most important points. Write down the top five facts or arguments that support your case. This will give you peace of mind and allow you to focus on the conversation instead of struggling to remember.

With a little practice, these three steps take less than 5 minutes - but the difference in results can be huge.
